The Sleep Medicine Advanced Practice Provider Foundation (SMAPP) announced its formation, establishing a first-of-its-kind non-profit dedicated to providing peer-led education and professional community for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) working across the specialty of sleep medicine. The organization’s central mission is to empower nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and clinical pharmacologists with the expert training and networking resources necessary to improve the diagnosis and management of complex sleep disorders.
As the complexity and prevalence of sleep disorders continue to rise across the nation, APPs are becoming increasingly critical frontline providers in sleep clinics and practices. SMAPP addresses a long-standing need within the specialty: focused, practical education delivered by clinicians who understand the unique challenges, workflow, and scope of APP practice. The organization aims to ensure that APPs have access to educational material that is immediately applicable to real-world clinical environments, maximizing their impact on patient outcomes.
SMAPP Foundation will deliver comprehensive educational programs across the full spectrum of sleep disorders. Crucially, all programming and resources will be developed and taught by APPs currently working in sleep medicine, solidifying the organization’s commitment to its by APPs, for APPs model. In addition to educational resources, the organization will focus on fostering a robust national community through mentorship, networking events, and an online platform for peer-to-peer collaboration and support.
