Entering its 46th year, the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) has reached this milestone by continuously adapting to advances in technology, shifts in healthcare delivery, and the evolving needs of sleep professionals. The BRPT has credentialed more than 26,000 RPSGTs and 1,100 CCSHs. Its commitment to rigorous credentialing processes and continuing education has elevated the role of sleep technologists and enhanced the profession’s credibility worldwide.
“As I step into my second year as president of the BRPT, my primary focus is on continuing to raise awareness of the organization and the value of our credentials,” says Amber Allen, BA, AAS, RPSGT, RST, CCSH, who serves as program director to the CAAHEP-accredited Polysomnographic Technology Program at Collin College in McKinney, Texas.
These credentials are not only professional milestones but also essential tools in validating expertise and ensuring quality care in the field of sleep medicine. “The global sleep community is growing rapidly, and it is essential that we continue to position these credentials as the gold standard in sleep technology and clinical sleep health,” Allen says. A member of the BRPT Board of Directors since 2017, she has chaired numerous committees for the BRPT and also serves on the Sleep Technologist and Respiratory Therapist Education Committee for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
“My goal is to strengthen our outreach efforts, foster new collaborations, and ensure that our credentials continue to be the benchmark for excellence in the profession,” she says. “Through these initiatives, we can advance our mission to elevate the profession and improve sleep health worldwide.”
Driving Progress
Any successful businessperson knows the crucial role a board of directors plays in guiding an organization to thrive while also remaining true to its mission and values. The BRPT’s Board of Directors is composed of active, engaged volunteers who do just that.
International in scope and membership, the Board currently has 11 members who are experts in polysomnography and one “public” member who represents the interests of the consumer/patient community. These Board members serve four-year terms and blend the expertise of technologists and physicians to establish and maintain credentialing guidelines for clinical sleep health professionals.
At its final Board meeting of 2024, the Board elected Steve Glinka, MPH, RPSGT, as president-elect of the BRPT. The director of Clinical Operations at MedBridge Healthcare in Greenville, S.C., Glinka will begin his two-year term as BRPT President in January 2026.
Glinka is excited to work with the Board of Directors and staff in his new role as president-elect to further advance the mission and vision of the organization. “My goal is to enhance the recognition and value of the polysomnography profession, advocate for ongoing professional development, and ensure that BRPT remains a leader in sleep technologist credentialing that supports the industry,” he says.
In addition, Su Jeong Linstrom, RPSGT, RST, was elected as treasurer, and Kenan Hoelke, BS, RPSGT, CCSH, was elected as secretary—both of whom began their terms on Jan. 1, 2025.
“Steve, Su, and Kenan’s ongoing commitment to the BRPT and their expertise has been instrumental in furthering our goals this past year and we are confident they will continue to lead with the same passion and excellence in these pivotal roles,” Allen says. “We look forward to the positive impact their leadership will bring in the coming term.”
The BRPT’s focus on awareness, collaboration, and credential integrity underscores a clear, forward-looking strategy: As the global sleep community expands, so too must the role of BRPT in shaping standards, supporting professionals, and driving progress in clinical sleep health worldwide.
