Sleep scientist and former registered polysomnographic technologist (RPSGT) Brooke Quinn has released her debut children’s health literacy book, Watson & Sherlock: The Mystery of Sleep, now available on Amazon. The story follows a curious child, Watson, and his doodle sidekick Sherlock as they “shrink down” to explore what the body and brain do during sleep — translating complex sleep science into kid-friendly clues, characters, and humor that families can read together.
Quinn earned a Master’s in Sleep Medicine from the University of Oxford and has worked across the sleep field — from sleep lab experience to research and industry — giving her a rare “full lifecycle” view of how sleep health affects real families. The Mystery of Sleep was inspired by the real questions her son asks at bedtime, including the classic: “Why do we have to sleep?”
“Kids are naturally curious — but most of us grow up without a clear, empowering understanding of what sleep actually does,” said Quinn. “This book turns sleep into something kids can see and understand, so bedtime becomes less of a battle and more of a mission.”
A “Case File” Format Designed for Learning (and Laughing). In addition to the story, The Mystery of Sleep includes an interactive Case File section to extend learning beyond the final page:
- Case Notes: a kid-friendly recap of the “clues,” plus fun facts that reinforce key concepts
- Detective’s Log (Grown-ups Note): practical, realistic tips families can apply at home — written with clear “why it works” explanations
Quinn describes the series as “Magic School Bus meets a bedtime detective story,” helping kids understand foundational health concepts early, while giving parents language and tools to support sleep routines.
Series Vision: Health Literacy That Starts Upstream
Watson & Sherlock: The Mystery of Sleep is the first title in The Adventures of Watson & Sherlock, a growing series that teaches anatomy and physiology through real-life childhood questions. Quinn has since published a second title, Watson & Sherlock: The Case of the Racing Heart, with additional books in development. Quinn is available for interviews, podcasts, school and library events, conference speaking, and collaborations with clinics, health organizations, and educators who want to expand child-friendly sleep and health education.
